Unlimited Global Alchemy
Underpinned by themes of fragility and resilience, a shared and positive sense of survival in the face of chronic health conditions, and the politics and mythologies surrounding disability and in particular HIV and Aids, this evening offers an encounter which is at once visceral and heartfelt, irreverent and provocative.
Unlimited Global Alchemy is a collaboration between London-based artistic director Rachel Gadsden and the Bambanani activist group from Khayelitsha Township, South Africa.
It includes the premiere of the performance work Alchemy, choreographed by Athina Vahla and performed by Freddie Opoku-Addaie, Sarah Chin and Rachel Gadsden with a score by sound artist Chas de Swiet.
This is followed by a screening of films featuring artist-activists Nondumiso Hlwele, Bongiwe Mba,Thobani Ncapai and Gadsden and a discussion with them hosted by curator Tony Heaton.
Unlimited Global Alchemy – the exhibition is in the Royal Festival Hall foyer from 31 August until 9 September.
