The Musicall Compass - J S Bach Motets
In collaboration with contemporary dance choreographer Julia Pond, the baroque music ensemble The Musicall Compass conducted by Crispin Lewis gives the premiere of a new and original production of the J S Bach Motets, in which dancers and singers interact and share the stage.
The works performed are:
Singet den Herrn BWV 225;
Ich lasse dich nicht BWV 159;
Komm, Jesu, komm BWV 229;
Jesu meine Freude BWV 227;
Der Geist Hilft BWV 226
The Motets will be sung one-to-part and a capella by eight singers, who will share the stage-space with two dancers. The choreography, uniquely will involve both dancers and singers, whilst they perform Bach’s stunning and often virtuosic music.
The splendid setting of St John’s Smith Square will be used in imaginative ways, the performers utilising the whole space: gallery, stage and aisles.
