A.D. Dance, 6 January

Resolution!, the annual platform for the newest in contemporary dance, returns at The Place for its 23rd edition in January and February 2012. The open season for short new pieces by emerging choreographers is celebrated for its sheer range and diversity. The 2012 edition will feature 78 new productions over the course of 6 weeks, in nightly changing triple bills, giving the chance for emerging choreographers to showcase their work on one the UK’s best-known dance stages. Created in 1989 by The Place’s former Theatre Director John Ashford, Resolution! has made its name for facilitating the often difficult transition from vocational dance training to the professional performance world. The season has helped launch the career of many of the UK’s leading dance artists, including Wayne McGregor, Javier de Frutos, Mark Baldwin, Katie Prince and Hofesh Shechter, and more recently, James Wilton, winner of the Sadler’s Wells Global Dance Contest in 2010, and James Cousins, winner of the inaugural New Adventure Choreographer Award in 2011. Among this year’s 78 participants, performers from some of the UK’s best dance companies, as well as renowned independent dance artists, will take the stage, making their first steps in choreographic practice. Scottish Dance Theatre Company’s Matthew Robinson (Sat 7 Jan), Protein Dance’s Kip Johnson (Fri 13 Jan), Henri Oguike Dance Company’s Elena Zaino (Thu 19 Jan), and independent performers Simonetta Alessandri (Fri 10 Feb) and Seke Chimutengwende (Fri 17 Feb) are just a few of the artists involved.
