Hetain Patel, First dance / To dance like your dad
Hetain Patel’s work uses imitation as a tool to explore cultural identity.
The screening of two video works by Hetain Patel, To Dance Like Your Dad and The First Dance, will be integrated with footage of a live performance monologue delivered in real time in the South Tank by the artist. The audience are invited to follow Patel as he recreates and re-imagines the scenes on the screen, which take place at his father’s factory, at home and on the street outside it. Gradually the existing video works will be replaced on screen by the action that has just been recorded.
