Laban’s mission is to provide a vibrant centre of excellence for lifelong learning in dance and dance related activity, serving the community at a local, national and international level. Its Library and Archive incorporate one of the largest and most varied research collections on dance and dance related activity in the UK, covering all aspects of dance in a variety of formats and languages.

All books, music CDs and videos are catalogued on computer making it easy to locate items on the shelf. The Library also holds the catalogue of the New York Public Library Dance collection on CD-ROM, Dance on Disc. The Library welcomes visitors and is available to all for reference use on payment of a small fee. There is also a large costume stock, and items from this collection are available for specified video and performance projects.

Laban has now moved to its new flagship building, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron and situated at Deptford. This landmark building serves to demonstrate the Centre’s local, national and international presence, and it has been identified as the focal point for the social and physical regeneration of Deptford and the surrounding area. It provides state-of-the-art facilities for the training and professional development of dance artists and scholars, as well as offering associated training and educational opportunities to organisations and individuals residing in the area.

The building is 7800m2 and sits on a site covering just less than 2 acres and is fully accessible.
