Davies’s work is seductive, accessible and emotionally-driven. In it she attempts to find truths in how we navigate and recall our lives. She uses bold mixtures of media to delve beneath the photo-realist surface, challenge expectations of genre and to touch wide audiences.

Her work has shown at prestigious venues including Purcell Room (London), The Place (London), Bonington Gallery (Nottingham), Chisenhale (London), The Science Museum (London), Cornerhouse Gallery (Manchester), Sydney Opera House and Berlin, Chicago, Tampere, New York and Edinburgh Film Festivals.

Studying fine art then animation at the Royal College of Art in 1997, Rachel’s extensive and eclectic career has since encompassed major collaborations with practitioners from other disciplines. Developing how film can interact with performance, her collaborators have included Robert Cohan, Erstaz Dance, H2 Dance, A2 Company, Mavin Khoo and Akram Khan.

She has directed numerous Channel 4 shorts with poets, dancers, musicians and performance artists, education documentary programmes for BBC, and numerous projection pieces for dance and theatre stage productions.

In 2005 Davies won a major international art prize, the IMZ Dance Screen Grand Prix for her short film ‘Gold‘, which has been screened and broadcast on Channel 4 and around the world. More recently, she has been developing large-scale collaborative film installation projects. Her recent commission ‘The Assembly’ received its premiere as part of the Manchester International Festival in July 07 at Cornerhouse gallery, followed by Sadler’s Wells Lilian Baylis Theatre in November 07.

She is currently based at Kingston University, researching on immersive narratives and the physical high of dancing. In 2006 she was John Thaw Fellow at Manchester University. She is regularly asked to be on panels to discuss and judge dance film.
