Company policy
English National Ballet celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in 2010; the 60th year of one of the world’s great ballet companies. The original 1950s vision for the Company – to take classical ballet of the highest quality to the widest geographical audience, at a price everyone can afford – remains the cornerstone of the Company’s philosophy today.

The Company aims to develop the popular classical repertoire, including repertoire that is entirely individual to English National Ballet, and to present that repertoire to as wide and sustainable an audience as possible. There are 68 dancers in the Company, and this is augmented to 120 for performances at the Royal Albert Hall. There are approximately 80 members of staff, with departments including Artistic, Wardrobe, Technical, Learning and Administration. In addition, the Orchestra of English National Ballet has 47 core members and is increased for performances in large theatres throughout the country.

English National Ballet is the West London hub for Big Dance, working in partnership with Local Authority partners, arts organisations and local communities to deliver a varied programme of dance events across the nine West London boroughs: Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Richmond upon Thames, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the City of Westminster. With under a year to go until the next Big Dance festival, English National Ballet has begun to plan the 2012 programme which will be even bigger and better! There are many ways in which you can get involved with Big Dance – whether you’re a dancer, a spectator or a volunteer ENB want to hear from you! Email west@bigdance2012.com to find out more.

Big Dance 2012 takes place from 7-15 July with a countdown period starting on 18 May 2012

English National Ballet is delighted that the hugely successful show Strictly Gershwin will be touring the UK this Autumn and Spring with a London Coliseum season in January 2012. Strictly Gershwin was premiered in 2008 at the Royal Albert Hall and continues English National Ballet’s hugely popular and successful series of in-the-round ballet presentations.

English National Ballet’s magical production of The Nutcracker returns to the London Coliseum in December, once again proving to audiences that this is the ultimate festive family treat. English National Ballet’s Artistic Director, Wayne Eagling created this new Nutcracker in 2010. Eagling’s ballet is a traditional retelling of the story set in atmospheric Edwardian London.

In Spring 2012 English National Ballet brings the magic and legacy of the Ballets Russes back to the London stage with a season of historic works from and inspired by the famous Company. These performances are a wonderful opportunity to rediscover some of the fabulous works raved about across Europe in the early 20th Century; to show established work which emerged from the Ballets Russes; and to create new work in the spirit of the Ballets Russes.
