News: YDE Young Creatives new partnerships

Wednesday 4 November 2009

Youth Dance England (YDE) is joining forces with the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet School for next years Young Creatives, its performance and mentoring programme for potential young choreographers.

The annual programme has been running for three years now and offers support to 15-19 year olds who have a passion for choreography and are looking to develop their skills, with one-to-one mentoring from dance artists and choreographers.

A highlight of the 2010 programme will be a three day residential at The Royal Ballet School’s base, White Lodge, near Richmond. The former Royal hunting lodge is home to the Royal Ballet’s Lower School and has recently undergone extensive restoration and redevelopment. Participants will go on to showcase their work at a high profile performance held in the Linbury Studio Theatre at the Royal Opera House.

Linda Jasper, Director of Youth Dance England, said: YDE is delighted to be working with two such highly esteemed and respected dance organisations. These partnerships offer YDE Young Creatives a great leap forward in terms of what we are offering talented choreographers of the future. YDE Young Creatives is a wonderfully unique package that goes beyond mentoring – it offers a life changing experience for the young people who take part.”

__Both the residential and performance will take place in April 2010 and YDE is now taking applications to be part of Young Creatives. One of this years participants said: “It was an honour to be part of the experience and it was inspiring. I feel that it was a marking moment in my life.”
