News: Wheeldon returns to the stage

Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon will be dancing a solo in the Ballet for the People gala at the Royal Festival Hall this weekend. Since moving to New York to work with New York City Ballet he hasn’t been seen on stage in the UK for around ten years – and had announced his retirement as a dancer.

The gala promises to bring together the best in British Ballet and features Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Rambert Dance Company and The Royal Ballet, along with individual guest performers – including Royal Ballet principal Zenaida Yanowsky. Amy Hollingsworth (ex-Rambert Dance Company, Bonachela Dance Company) and Oxana Panchenko (Ballet Boyz/George Piper Dances will dance a new work by Rafael Bonachela and Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has created a special tango for Ballet Boyz Michael Nunn and Billy Trevitt – who are producing the event in their own inimitable way..
