News: The artists formerly known as Diversions

Formerly known as Diversions, the company who are now based at the Wales Millenium Centre, are giving their first performances with a new name this week. National Dance Company Wales are appearing in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre on Friday 6 November, preceded by performances on the Donald Gordon stage, Wales Millennium Centre, on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th.

Artistic Director of the twenty five year old company Ann Sholem said: “We are now on the road to becoming a world-class company and will need the commitment of the nation for us to continue developing as a flagship arts organisation committed to excellence that represents the dynamic, ambitious Wales on the world stage… The time is right to bring that excellence, pride and dynamism to our name; National Dance Company Wales.”

The two works which make up the programme being presented at the QEH on Friday are both from choreographers new to the company, which currently has ten dancers. Nigel Charnock is the co-founder of DV8. His *Lunatic, commissioned for the National Dance Company Wales is a highly theatrical production which revels in the glamour and romance of moonlight, with music from the ’40s and ’50s, set against the reality of post wartime Britain. _*Veil of Stars _has been created by Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis, set to an original score from Julien Tarride.
