News: Tapping Back into the Limelight

With Shall We Dance in the West End, tap dancer Matt Flint winning So You Think You Can Dance, and the unforgettable tap dancing penguin in the film Happy Feet, tap dancing is enjoying a rise in popularity once again.

‘Annette Walker, a dancer and tap teacher, agrees. “People have always loved tap,” she says. “When it is more visible, they get excited and want to take part.”

Jake Wallis Simons and his family went for a tap dancing class with Tom Chambers, who plays the lead in Shall We Dance, to find out what all the fuss is about.
‘I was beginning to relate to the huge revival of interest in tap. It was infectious; I could see why my kids loved it.’
