Sir Brian McMaster’s report *Supporting Excellence in the Arts – from measurement to judgement*, published by the Government earlier this year, got an enthusiastic reception from many people working in dance. The recommendation to reinstate some forms of peer review, involving artists and art form specialists in the assessment of publicly funded art, in all its forms was particularly welcomed by dance professionals. On Tuesday 22 April Sir Brian McMaster himself will be chairing a debate at the Lilian Baylis Theatre, Sadler’s Wells.

A Question of Judgement – Talk Amongst Yourselves will be a debate on the artist’s role in assessing publicly funded dance and performance. A panel of speakers includes Siobhan Davies CBE, choreographer and Artistic Director of Siobhan Davies Dance; Javier de Frutos, Artistic Director of Phoenix Dance Theatre and Olivier Award winning choreographer of Cabaret; and Vicky Featherstone, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of National Theatre of Scotland.

Jointly organised by Dance UK and Sadler’s Wells, this talk is sure to be of interest to all arts professionals across art forms, and policy makers looking to shape future policy responding to the McMaster Review.
