News: Sue Hoyle is to be Arts Council England's

Arts Council England
has appointed nine Advisors, all of whom are specialists in their field, to lead the new streamlined advisory system.

The Lead Advisors will build on the work of the previous national advisory panels and will enable the Arts Council to draw on expert advice regionally and nationally. They will also advise on the overseeing and delivery of the Arts Council’s corporate plan.

is the new Lead Advisor for Dance.
Until July 2003, Sue Hoyle was Executive Director of The Place. She has recently taken up her appointment as Deputy Director of the Clore Cultural Leadership Programme. Sue’s extensive experience includes: London Festival Ballet; Extemporary Dance Theatre; Director of Dance for the Arts Council of Great Britain (1986 – 94); Deputy Secretary-General of the Arts Council of England (1994 – 97) and Head of Arts for the British Council in France.

Sue has also worked as a consultant with Coopers and Lybrand and International Intelligence on Culture, advising the Hong Kong Arts Council on funding strategy. She is a Patron of the Foundation for Community Dance, advisor to the Drama and Dance department of the British Council, a member of the Board of Directors of Ricochet Dance Company, DV8 Physical Theatre, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Franco-British Council.

On her appointment Sue Hoyle said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Lead Advisor for Dance. In this role, I will ensure that dance is at the heart of Arts Council England’s plans for culture. Given the success of dance artists – their achievements and their potential – I believe that dance is well placed to deliver the Arts Council’s ambitions for quality, creativity and enterprise in the arts.”
