News: Stand up for dance

Friday 8 October 2004

The Dance Umbrella Jerwood Proms will allow audiences to ‘Stand Up for Dance’ for just £5 a time at Sadler’s Wells this week.

This week there is the chance to see the first UK performances of New York based Shen Wei Dance Arts – and Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault in the stomping ode to the working man, *Joe,* featuring thirty two dancers in overcoats, fedoras and heavy boots. Clips of both companies can be seen in the videobox

The Jerwood Proms at Sadler’s Wells have been part of Dance Umbrella for the last three years. Commenting on the scheme last year Val Bourne, Founder and Artistic Director of Dance Umbrella, said: “ With football, rock concerts and even ballet, you pretty much know what you’re going to get. We (in the dance industry) are in danger of alienating audiences by overpricing tickets for work which they may not know at all. It’s important for people not to be excluded because of money.”

Take advantage of the Sadler’s Wells ‘multibuy’ and the price comes down even further – to £8 for both shows.
