Wed 8 June report:

Trafalgar Square will be the setting for the biggest open air tea dance ever this Wednesday 8 June from 1 – 3pm. Its being organised by Teadirect, the Fairtrade tea brand with the Royal Opera House and is aimed at all dance lovers, whatever their age, dance style or level.

Turn up on the day to quickstep, tango, waltz – or cha cha char – as the Royal Opera House Dance Band plays ballroom dance favourites, or just go along to watch.

A team of Teadirect dancers will offer free tuition to beginners so those unfamiliar with ballroom steps can join in the fun.

Anton Du Beke, Strictly Come Dancing star, who will be opening the tea dance said: “Those who can’t dance only need to find a dancing partner who can. Join a decent dance and you will meet people, dance with different partners which will boost your confidence, and have a fabulous time. At tea dance events like the Teadirect Decent Dance in the Square, the etiquette dictates that a lady will never decline an invitation to dance. I will be opening the Teadirect Decent Dance in the Square with a special demonstration and hope you can join us for a cha cha char!”
