Amanda Skoog has been appointed as Executive Director of Shobana Jeyasingh Dance. She joins the company from Royal New Zealand Ballet where she has been Managing Director since 2006, bringing significant experience in leading and managing a national touring dance company.

Amanda began her career as a dancer with English National Ballet before taking a number of executive roles in both New Zealand and the UK.

Emma Davidson, Chair of the Board of Shobana Jeyasingh Dance, said:
“We are absolutely delighted that Amanda will be joining SJD. She brings with her extensive experience and a record of distinguished service to the cultural sector. The last few years has seen SJD going from strength to strength with prestigious commissions from ROH, Southbank Centre and Dance Umbrella. Both Shobana and I are looking forward to working with Amanda on the next stage in the evolution of our exciting and dynamic company.”

Amanda Skoog said:
“I am thrilled to be returning to the UK to work alongside Shobana Jeyasingh. It will be a privilege to support her artistic vision for SJD – a contemporary dance company I hold in the highest regard. The greatest reward for a manager is to help the artists they work with to succeed and I hope that through my appointment SJD will find new performance opportunities both in the UK and internationally, building a wider appreciation and knowledge of Shobana’s work. Engaging with the dance and wider arts community in the UK is going to be exhilarating and I have Shobana’s extraordinary work and the company’s exceptional education programme to inspire me. I can’t wait to get started – even if it does mean moving straight from one winter to another!”

Amanda takes over from Jenny Roberts who has been working with the company as Interim Executive Director since August 2014. She joins the company on Monday 16 November 2015.
