Sergei Polunin was in London this week to confirm that he will be appearing at the London Coliseum with the Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet in Roland Petit’s 1975 version of Coppélia, in July.

The star Ukranian dancer, still only 23, left the Royal Ballet suddenly in January last year – but was back to dance with Tamara Rojo in her last performances before leaving to lead English National Ballet in February this year. He had been due to appear at the London Coliseum earlier this year as part of Peter Schaufuss’ production Midnight Express – but left the country a few days before the show opened.

At a press conference announcing the Coppélia dates he promised to be there in July: ‘I am very sorry that, due to health issues at the time, I wasn’t able to explain to everyone why I couldn’t perform in April but I’m delighted to have another opportunity to dance at the Coliseum in July. Coppélia is one of my favourite ballets and I will be there!’

The company also includes principal dancers Semyon Velichko, Kristina Shapran and Erika Mikirticheva. It is led by General Director Vladimir Urin and internationally renowned dancer Igor Zelensky is Artistic Director. The English National Ballet Orchestra will play with the company at the Coliseum.
