Matthew Bourne’s production of Sleeping Beauty was Sadler’s Wells fastest selling and most successful show in the theatre’s history – and New Adventure’s most successful production to date. It ran for eight weeks over the Christmas and New year season at Sadler’s Wells, with 64 performances at full capacity, meaning 97,000 people saw the show – with 46% first time attenders at the theatre. Last week it picked up the Manchester Theatre Award (formally the Manchester Evening News Award) for Best Dance production -and designer Lez Brotherston has been nominated in the Olivier Awards Outstanding Achievement in Dance category for his Set and Costume Designs (winners to be announced on Sunday 28 April).

New Adventures have just started the second leg of the UK tour of Sleeping Beauty in Newcastle and there’s another chance for London audiences to catch it when it stops off at New Wimbledon Theatre next week (Tue 23 –Sat 27 April).

After the UK tour winds up in Sheffield at the end of May, there will be further performances in Ravenna, Italy and Moscow –and a three month tour of the United Statest in the Autumn.

Matthew Bourne said:
“Sleeping Beauty was created as the centre piece of a year long celebration of 25 years of my company, and its quality and popularity is a testament to everyone who makes New Adventures what it is today. I’m grateful to our touring venues and audiences who have embraced this piece like no other, making it our most successful production yet. As New Adventures enters it’s next 25 years, I couldn’t be more thrilled to be returning to the USA, where the company has enjoyed particular success over the last two decades, with a production and a company of which I am so proud”

The production will be filmed (directed by Ross MacGibbon) at the Bristol Hippodrome next month, for TV broadcast on TV over the Christmas period and a subsequent DVD release.
