The first Company Members have been selected for the National Youth Dance Company

Following a series of workshops around the country that saw over 200 young people take part, England’s brand new National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) has selected its first intake of company members. Thirty young people aged 16-20 from over 20 towns, cities and villages all over England have been invited to take up places with the company.

The cohort of 11 male and 19 female dancers was chosen from 11 experience workshops in nine regions of England. The new members will work with NYDC’s first Guest Artistic Director, Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Jasmin Vardimon, ahead of a debut performance on the main stage at Sadler’s Wells on Saturday 8 June. The Sadler’s Wells performances will be followed by a short UK tour that will also visit Kent, Leeds, Salford and Bristol.

Jasmin Vardimon Artistic Director Jasmin Vardimon Company & Guest Artistic Director NYDC said: “I am very excited to be working with this extremely talented group of young dancers over the coming year and supporting their physical, artistic and personal development”.

NYDC will meet during school holidays at Sadler’s Wells and other venues across England to participate in four intensive weeks per year. The company will give its members the opportunity to work with a range of inspirational teachers and choreographers, to learn, create and perform original work, drawing on a number of dance techniques including contemporary, hip hop, ballet and South Asian dance.

Alan Davey, Chief Executive, Arts Council England, said: “The National Youth Dance Company is about aspiration, ambition and achievement for some of the most talented young dancers in the country.”
