Robert Clark's Happiness Treatment

Nottingham is about to become the ideal destination for a dance mini break as Dance4’s festival Nottdance bring more than 40 performances to 20 of the city’s venues and public spaces over 11 days between 5 and 15 March.

If you missed Ultima Vez’s exhilarating What the Body Does not Remember in London, catch it here as part of its UK tour; recent National Dance Award winner Wendy Houstoun is in town with Stupid Women – her answer (and tribute) to the late Nigel Charnock’s Stupid Men ; Scottish Dance Theatre will be in town and Hetain Patel will be performing his American Boy , alongside a huge range of other European and UK based artists.

A highlight of this year’s festival includes a celebration of the work of renowned visual and dance artist Rosemary Butcher, with an exhibition of her work Memory in the Present Tense throughout the festival celebrating her work from 1976 to present day, which includes performances of Secrets of the Open Sea and Test Pieces – a new live gallery with work involving four dancers.

Robert Clark’s Happiness Treatments promises to be a unique experience, involving one-to-one ‘happiness treatments’. Taking place over two days, these interactive performances look at happiness and the complex role it plays in contemporary society. On arrival attendees are treated as they would be in a spa – offered a drink and then taken to their own personal experience chosen for them based on a playful question at the time of booking. Reason enough to book a train ticket to Nottingham?

“For the past 24 years, Nottdance has earned its international reputation amongst artists as a vital platform to present new ideas and for audiences this remains a festival that challenges perceptions whilst being playful and entertaining,” says Paul Russ, chief executive of Dance4, the Nottingham based National Dance Agency.
