Alan Bishop will succeed Michael Lynch as the Chief Executive of Southbank Centre when he leaves in April 2009 and will join the organisation early in the new year. He is currently Chief Executive of the Central Office of Information (COI), the Government’s Communications agency and was formerly Chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi International.

He said: “I am passionate about taking on this important role at London’s and the world’s leading art venue. I really look forward to working closely with Chairman Rick Haythornthwaite, Artistic Director Jude Kelly and the whole Southbank Centre team to build on the triumph of the reopening and the many achievements so far.”

Announcing the appointment, Rick Haythornthwaite, Chairman of Southbank Centre Board, said that Bishop is “the right man for the job and someone who has the skills to lead the organisation through its next major stage of development, looking towards the Olympics and beyond.” He also paid tribute to Michael Lynch saying “Much has been achieved under Michael’s leadership, including the enormously successful reopening of the Royal Festival Hall and the acclaimed transformation of the Southbank Centre site.”
