Move It main stage, 2012

MOVE IT, the UK’s biggest dance event is back at Olympia this March.

Over three days (Fri 8th –Sun 10th), some 20,000 dance enthusiasts will be packing the main exhibition hall to see performances, take part in classes, shop with a wide range of specialist retailers and generally find out more about all things dance. There is something for everyone at Move It – and this year there’s a special focus on contemporary dance – with Wayne Mcgregor | Random Dance appearing for the first time at the show, and a line up of guest interviews with up and coming choreographers James Cousins and Jonathan Goddard, hip hop artist extraordinaire Jonzi D and choreographer/Rambert Dance Company’s Artistic Director Mark Baldwin.

Stars from West End shows will also be there – with the cast of A Chorus Line will be dancing on the main stage – and the chance to learn one of their routines in several of the 200+ dance classes on offer over the weekend. Boy Blue Entertainment, English National Ballet’s Emerging Dancer, Birdgang Dance Company and Sky’s Got to Dance finalists Boadicea are will also be headline acts on the main stage.

Classes at MOVE IT include Lindy Hop, Salsa, Ballroom, Hip Hop, Tap, Commercial and more –all tailored to different levels of experience. There’s also the chance to learn routines inspired by West End shows like The Bodyguard and Matilda, perfect some of the techniques of classical ballet or learn the foundations of hip hop styles locking, voguing or waacking.

One of the best things about Move it is the chance it gives to meet some of the most influential people working in dance. This year top choreographer Sean Cheeseman will be in conversation on the Dance Register interview sofa. Over the years he has worked with Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, TLC, Prince, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah and Britney Spears, winning two MTV Music Awards along the way. Fresh from her first season as a Strictly Come Dancing judge, ballerina Darcey Bussell will be another of the guests getting chatty on the sofa.

As always at Move it there are plenty of opportunities for students from some of the best dance schools, colleges and universities across the UK to perform for the crowds – and for the second year running there’s also a Dance Teachers Convention, offering a wealth of seminars and practical workshops for teachers at all stages of their careers.

And then there are all those opportunities to shop! Many of the top brands in dance wear have stalls at Move It – and you’re highly to find some tempting discount deals on offer…
