News: Martha and the Royal Ballet

Singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright will perform alongside Royal Ballet principal dancers Zenaida Yanowsky and Marianela Nuñez in a new version of Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins, with choreographyby Will Tuckett. Design will be by Lez Brotherston – best known for his collaborations with Matthew Bourne – and lighting by Paule Constable.

This new piece will be part of a triple bill at the Royal Opera House with the theme of life in the interwar years, alongside Glen Tetley’s Pierrot Lunaire and Kenneth MacMillan’s La Fin du Jour.

Martha Wainwright is the sister of singer songwriter Rufus Wainwright and daughter of Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle. Rolling Stone magazine called her 2005 EP Bloody Motherfu*king As*holea blistering prelude to her debut album.” – and the Sunday Times included it in their Song of the Year list for 2005.

The programme will be performed on 26, 27, 28 (mat) April and 4 & 9 May
