Friday 26 January 2007

The South Bank Centre has announced the appointment of choreographer Maresa von Stockert as Dance Artist in Residence beginning January 2007. Winner of 2005’s Time Out Live Award, von Stockert’s and her company Tilted Productions will make their Queen Elizabeth Hall debut on Tuesday 6 February with *Marjorie’s World Unhinged.*

As Artist in Residence Maresa von Stockert will be involved in a programme of commissions, performances and projects with South Bank Centre and research and collaborations with different areas of the centre’s wide-ranging activities. South Bank Centre will support the development of her company and its work, assist with its international profile and help to build its relationships with other venues and festivals around the UK and internationally.

Julia Carruthers, Head of Dance and Performance at South Bank Centre, highlights the importance of this appointment,

“At a time when high-profile female choreographers in leading roles seem to be an endangered species in the UK, I’m very happy to have the chance to work with Maresa on new ideas and projects that could only happen here.”

Maresa von Stockert is thrilled with her new position,

“I am delighted to become an Artist in Residence at South Bank Centre this year. Along with my company, Tilted Productions, I am looking forward to developing exciting projects in partnership with South Bank Centre.”

The residency follows a tradition of choreographers and dancers in residence at South Bank Centre, which have included Rob Tannion and Liam Steel of Stan Won’t Dance, Akram Khan, Stephanie Schober and Jonathan Burrows.
