Company Chameleon - 'The Beauty of the Beast'

The theatre and dance line up Latitude, the multi-arts festival now in its tenth year at Henham Park Suffolk (16 – 19 July), has just been announced.

The Waterfront Stage is once again the destination for dance – with Sadler’s Wells presenting a varied programme across the weekend, including a revival of Rambert’s classic Rooster (Christopher Bruce’s moves set to ’60s tracks from the Rolling Stones) and the National Youth Dance Company (NYDC), in Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Frame[d] which had its premiere in London earlier this month (our review). Other artists and companies will be announced in the next few weeks.

Manchester based Company Chameleon currently touring with their hit show Beauty of the Beast (our review) will be also be appearing on the Waterfront Stage.

East London Dance’s will be taking their new production Club Life, (recently premiered at Stratford East Theatre Royal – read our review) to the Theatre Stage. The high energy show speeds through clubbing’s most influential eras from the sixties to the noughties, from Northern Soul, via disco, house and hip hop, with Lauren Fitzpatrick & Madeleine Gould, Boadicea Ladies, Soul Mavericks, Birdgang and Indahouse. Directed by choreographer Nathan ‘NEO’ Gordon (Flawless, Kylie Minogue Streetdance), the show includes a live band, with music from drummer/ producer Jack Baker (Bonobo, Alice Russell, Lea Lea).

Locals DanceEast (based in Ipswich) will be setting up shop in Pandora’s Playground and kicking off each day with an invigorating yoga class, followed by a selection of high energy favourites including hip hop delivered by Avant Garde Dance, and sessions in belly dance, capoeira and Latitude specials Pop Party and DanceHouse Party.

There will be plenty of other movement based performances to look out for (not to mention the audiences in the main arenas) on other stages – including the Live Art House, the Faraway Forest, the Cabaret Arena and the Little House –where you’ll fine Latitude favourites Figs in Wigs

Latitude tickets start at £84.50 for a day.
