News: Kenrick Sandy, Boy Blue choreographer on his hip hop/manga mash-up

Thursday 17 October 2013 by Deborah Jones

Kenrick Sandy, choreographer of Boy Blue believes hip hop as a dance form has been under-estimated. He talks to Keith Watson.

The Five & The Prophecy Of Prana is the long-awaited, full-length follow-up to Boy Blue’s Olivier Award-winning breakout hit Pied Piper, which established the company on the hip hop dance-theatre scene in 2006.

‘Hip hop dance still needs to be respected much more for the work that goes into it. With ballet and contemporary, people respect the technique – hip hop dance hasn’t reached that level. We deserve it.’ Sandy doesn’t sound bitter, he’s just stating facts.
