Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist, Jasmin Vardimon, has been appointed as Guest Artistic Director for the first year of the National Youth Dance Company.

NYDC is an exciting new company that aims to create and perform innovative and influential youth dance, drawing together some of the brightest young talent from across the country. NYDC will offer a bespoke, holistic programme supporting the physical, artistic and personal development of talented young dancers at a critical age of 16-19 years, over a three year period.

As NYDC’s first guest Artistic Director, Jasmin Vardimon will work with NYDC to select 30 dancers from diverse backgrounds with experience in any dance style (aged 16-18 years) to form the new company in February 2013, which will follow a series of regional selection days throughout England from now through to the end of January.

Vardimon will work closely with NYDC members in all levels of their training programme and will also choreograph and direct NYDC’s debut performance on the Sadler’s Well’s main stage on Saturday 8 June 2013. Jasmin Vardimon Company performers will work alongside Vardimon, training NYDC members in a wide range of performance skills, incorporating dance technique with theatrical skills and voice coaching.

Jasmin Vardimon said: “I am delighted to have been invited by Sadler’s Wells to be the first artistic director of the National Youth Dance Company and am looking forward to developing and nurturing the next generation of talented dancers in the UK. This is an exciting time for the dance world and I hope NYDC will provide a real opportunity for young dancers to develop into world class performers.”
