From Laban to Dance UK
Ian Bramley, currently Head of Publications at Laban and Editor of Dance Theatre Journal, will be leaving Laban at the end of June to become Director of Dance UK
He has worked at Laban for five years, and in that time has kept Dance Theatre Journal at the forefront of dance writing and publishing, as well as nurturing new writing talent. In the last year he has launched the new academic journal, Discourses in Dance, and the development of a partnership with the National Dance Teachers Association to publish their termly magazine, Dance Matters. Ian was also involved in creating Laban’s successful Stage 3 Lottery Bid document for capital funding from Arts Council England.

Ian Bramley said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be joining Dance UK. I hope to be able to build on the past successes of Jeanette Siddall and the team and strengthen Dance UK’s role as the key national organisation for the dance profession. I am also very sad to be leaving Laban. Laban is an extraordinary institution and it has been very exciting to be part of the move to its new building. Dance Theatre Journal is an important voice in dance and I look forward to its continued development.’

Marion North, Principal and Chief Executive at Laban stated: ‘Ian has made a major contribution to the development of Laban. We shall miss his insightful vision, his publishing skills and his enthusiasm for dance.’

Ian has previously been involved with Dance UK, contributing to the organisation’s membership leaflet and recent publications such as Your Body Your Risk and Dance Teaching Essentials.

Jane Mooney, Chair of Dance UK said:
‘We feel very fortunate that Ian is joining Dance UK as our new Director. I am hugely excited. His experience offers a wealth of new opportunities for the future of the organisation. I’m sure his energy and enthusiasm will enrich and develop all aspects of Dance UK’s work.’
