News: Have a laugh for the Place

Friday 20 June 2008

There’ll be a different kind of entertainment at The Place on Sunday 6 July when comedian Ian Stone brings together a line up of top UK comics, including Omid Djalili, Sean Lock, Stewart Lee, Stephen K Amos and Lee Mack for a one-off evening of live comedy.

Stand Up for Dance will be the final event in The Place’s *_Reaching for the Stars_*appeal, a year-long campaign to raise over £1m for the construction of two new studios which opened in May.

Stone, whose children attend The Place’s Young Dancers Saturday Programme, will compère the event which also features Stephen K Amos and Lee Mack. All of the comics are frequent TV performers and top-of-the-bill names on stand-up circuit, and no less than four were included in Channel 4’s recent poll of the 100 Greatest Stand Ups Ever. When Stone offered to organise the event, he did not expect that such an incredible line-up to come together.

Stone, whose children attend The Place’s Young Dancers Saturday Programme, will compère the event. He said: I’m very excited about the prospect of doing a comedy gig for the Reaching for the Stars appeal. I’ve loved dancing since I was a kid and anything that helps and encourages other young people to get involved in the dance world has got to be a positive thing. The fact that some of the best comics in the country have agreed to help out is fantastic and should make for a great night.

All tickets are £25, with proceeds going to The Place’s Reaching for the Stars appeal.
