Two London Hip hop dance groups are amongst the finalists in ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent show this weekend.

Flawless -a group of friends from North London and Diversity – made up of friends and brothers from East London and Essex are both winners of the Street Dance UK Championships, which attracts huge crowds to large London venues like Hammersmith Apollo and thousands of dancers to its auditions. According to competition founder James Nahr Diversity got together after seeing Flawless win the 2005 championship and went on to win themselves in 2007. “When Flawless first came through they were setting the pace. It is just a coincidence they’re both in Britain’s Got Talent at the same time, but it is the first time they are coming face to face… That’s what makes it so exciting. They are rivals, but they have respect for each other and there is great sportsmanship.” Read more in the Evening Standard, 29 May 09

They’re not the only dance acts in the competion through. As well as four singing acts (including Susan Boyle) and a saxophonist they’ll have to beat Stavros Flatley – father and son Demetrios and Michalakis Andreas Demetriouas who describe themselves as ‘two fat versions of Michael Flatley with a Greek element’.

Last year’s winner was 14 year old street dancer George Sampson. He went on to appear in Zoonation’s hit West End show Into the Hoods

Britain’s Got Talent is on ITV1 Saturday 30 May from 6.45 – 10pm
