English National Ballet won the dance category in this year’s South Bank Sky Arts Awards for Lest We Forget – their acclaimed programme of new work (by Akram Khan, Russell Maliphant and Liam Scarlett) marking the centenary of World War One. The other nominees in the category were Ballet Black’s A Dream Within A Midsummer Night’s Dream, choreographed by Arthur Pita and The Royal Ballet’s The Winter’s Tale, by @Christopher Wheeldon*.

The awards celebrate the best of British culture and achievement across dance, visual art, theatre, opera, comedy, classical music, pop, TV drama, literature, and film and were announced last night at the Savoy Hotel, in a ceremony hosted by Melvyn Bragg, presenter and editor of the South Bank Show for many years.

The Award for Outstanding Achievement went to Sylvie Guillem, who is in the midst of a farewell tour with Life in Progress (last London shows at the London Coliseum, 28 July – 2 August)

The award ceremony will be broadcast on Sky Arts 1 on Wednesday 10th June at 8.00pm.

Lest We Forget is at Sadler’s Wells, 8 – 12 September
