News: Desperately seeking a composer/choreographer?

Wednesday 2 February 2005

Shobana Jeyasingh’s latest collaboration with composer Michael Nyman happened when she bumped in to him outside her hairdressers. For choreographers and composers who don’t want to leave it to chance, or don’t have many good hair days, the IF Festival – London’s newest music festival – offers a ‘speed dating’ evening for potential collaborators to meet.

The event, which happens at the Bush Hall, Hammersmith on Sunday 27 February at 5.30pm is open to composers and choreographers of any age and genre to meet, discuss their work, share ideas, and hopefully spark ideas for collaborations in the future.

The event will be hosted by composer Colin Riley (co-Artistic Director of the Festival, and no stranger to music-dance collaborations) and dance manager Laura Woods. They promise that the environment will be friendly and relaxed environment – and that participants will be provided with guidelines for how to get the best out of this fun and unique opportunity. Each will be given a five minute, 1:1 slot in which they can explain more about their work, pitch for ideas, and find potential collaborators.

The £10 ticket price includes a drinks reception before hand (good thinking…) and entry to the final evening concert of the festival
