News: Darcey Bussell flies in
Ballerina Darcey Bussell came out of retirement to take part in the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics last night. She swooped down on to the stage as a flaming phoenix to join 200 dancers, including Royal Ballet colleagues Gary Avis, Edward Watson, Nehemiah Kish and Jonathan Cope in a performance choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, to music by David Arnold.
After retiring from the Royal Ballet in 2007, Bussell moved to Australia, but has recently returned to the UK and will be a judge in the new series of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. Team GB’s swimmer Rebecca Adlington and gymnast Beth Tweddle are rumoured to be amongst the contestants when the new series starts in the autumn.
