News: Dance UK new dance teachers insurance

Friday 20 August 2010

Dance UK, the national body for the dance profession is taking steps to save dance teachers money. Working with the insurance brokers Gordon and Co, the organisations have come together to improve First Step, the specialist Public Liability Insurance scheme for dance teachers available to current members of Dance UK and also to Dance Resource Base Northern Ireland.

A significant number of enhancements to the scope of the insurance provided have been made – for example, teachers are covered for occasional drama, yoga, or Pilates sessions, as well as for dance. The premium has also been reduced, saving Dance UK members around £49 a year.

First Step, which is administered by Gordon & Co Insurance Brokers and underwritten by ACE European Group Limited comprises of the following elements:

• Public & Products Liability Insurance
• Professional Indemnity Insurance
• Personal Accident Insurance

To summarise the changes in brief:

a) First Step Insurance includes, for the first time, Personal Accident benefits as part of the package. This is designed to give the dance teacher a benefit in the event of either death, permanent or temporary disablement.
d) The premium is £78.75, including 5% Insurance Premium Tax, with the policy fee remaining at £12.50 (increased during 2009), therefore a total cost of £91.25.
c) The Underwriters has been changed to Ace Europe Limited;
d) First Step Insurance includes an extension to incorporate a Professional Indemnity Insurance wording because some local authorities require this class of insurance;

Gordon and Co are independent Insurance Brokers authorised and regulated in the conduct of their business by the Financial Services Authority.
