English National Ballet has announced its Executive Director, Caroline Thomson, is to step down from her role by April 2016. Caroline, who joined English National Ballet in 2013, will become a member of its Board once a new Executive Director is in post next year.

“When I became Executive Director at English National Ballet, my focus was to work alongside newly appointed Artistic Director Tamara Rojo to stabilise the organisation, lead its transformation and secure a new home for English National Ballet and English National Ballet School,” Caroline Thomson said.
I am very proud to have been able to achieve these goals, and therefore I now feel that it is the right time to stand down and hand the reins over to a new leader who will work with Tamara into the next phase as the company moves to London City Island in 2018, and builds upon her vision for years to come.
English National Ballet today is a brilliant creative powerhouse staffed by fantastic and talented people. I will miss the executive responsibility but am honoured and delighted to be asked by our chair Justin Bickle to move to a non-executive role on the Board and I look forward continuing to help English National Ballet to even greater achievements.”

“I am truly grateful for the work Caroline has done during her time as Executive Director,” Tamara Rojo said yesterday. “She helped propel the Company forward as we continue to push the boundaries of our art form, and I’m proud of what we have accomplished so quickly. It has been wonderful to have had such an inspiring partner, and I’m thrilled that Caroline will continue a close relationship with the English National Ballet as a member of our Board.”

As well as joining English National Ballet’s Board, Caroline will continue to focus on her portfolio of non-executive director work, including Deputy Chair of the National Gallery, Chair of Digital UK, Board Member of Shareholder Executive, amongst others.
