News: Capture - take five

Friday 27 October 2006

CAPTURE, the national, strategic agency for dance and the moving image has launched *Capture5*, the fifth round of its screen-based dance production fund.

Awards are made of up to £20,000 and proposals are welcomed from emerging and established artists. CAPTURE is hoping to attract applications from a wide variety of artists at all career stages through encouraging screen-based dance submissions that span a range of artists’ practices e.g. film, video, new media and installation.

The scheme was launched on October 18 and the deadline for submission of proposals is December 31st at 5pm. Details of awards made will be announced on February 14 2007, with the commissioned works being premiered during 2007/8.

Ross MacGibbon, Executive Producer, Dance, for BBC Television, is a member of the selection panel for Capture5 and says:

“The first four Capture commissioning rounds have contributed immensely to the development of the dance screen genre. Recent Capture commissions such as Rachel Davies’ Gold have won awards in major mainstream film and television festivals and the touring exhibitions of Capture commissioned installation works in 2004/5 was seen by over 45,000 people in England which indicates that dance screen works now play a significant role in contemporary arts practice”

For Capture5, several new co-commissioning, distribution and exhibition partners are offering significant additional resources, exhibition and distribution opportunities.

Partners include: Jerwood Space, London; Scottish Screen; Scottish Arts; CCA, Glasgow; Sadler’s Wells, London; Artprojx; and Picture This, Bristol.

Francis McKee, Interim Director, CCA, Glasgow, said “We are extremely excited to be involved with the Capture production fund. Capture5 commissions will seek out new work that is at the forefront of inter-disciplinary practice.”
