News: British Dance Edition 2010

Wednesday 3 February 2010

Around 500 delegates are arriving in Birmingham for the four days of performances, presentations, meetings, workshops and a trade fair which present the very best of UK dance in British Dance Edition 2010 (Wed 3rd – Sat 6th February)

Hosted this year by DanceXchange, British Dance Edition is organised by the National Dance Network andtakes place every two years. Although it is industry based and the focus is on selling work to promoters in the UK and beyond, this year under the direction of David Massingham (Artistic Director of DanceXchange) there is a focus on developing and fostering relationships with artists. One of his new ideas for this year is a ‘Dragons Den of Dance’, otherwise known as the BDE 2010 Research Project (BDERP). Individuals, or groups of dance artists pre-selected from written applications will have the chance to pitch their ideas to a panel of producers. Successful bids will be developed further with the help of The Producing Partnership for BDERP. Nearly £40,000 has been raised for the project by the main partners – Birmingham Hippodrome, DanceXchange, New Moves International, The Place and Woking Dance Festival – with additional input from Aerowaves, Dance 4, Dance Base, Dance East, Dance Umbrella, Deda, Dublin Dance Festival, East London Dance, Greenwich Dance Agency, The Lowry, Merseyside Dance Network, Sadlers Wells, South East Dance and Yorkshire Dance.

Some performances are also open to the public, including the first performances of Arthur Pita’s new production *God’s Garden**, Jasmin Vardimon Company’s Yesterday, Vincent Dance Theatre’s* *If We Go On*. and a triple bill of work by Russell Maliphant Company featuring the brand new AfterLight Part 1 created for the Sadler’s Wells*_In the Spirit of Diaghilev_* programme.
