News: British Dance Edition 2006

Wednesday 25 January 2006

British Dance Edition – which showcases the best of British dance for UK and international promoters takes place in Leeds this year from 9 – 11 February.

It’s being hosted by Yorkshire Dance and Illuminate, the region-wide Urban Cultural Programme in Leeds.

This years BDE dispenses with the traditional trade fair and instead will bring artists and promoters together in a speed dating format.

Although the event is aimed at programmers and promoters, many of the performances are also open to the public – this year including Russell Maliphant, Michael Clark and Henri Oguike companies.

Emerging talents also will feature in the programme, including Rosie Kay, Hofesh Shechter and Jane Mason as well as a wide range of events including inspired aerial acrobatics, the finest, most delicate moves of South Asian dance, children’s performances, dance films and city-centre digital installations.

Yorkshire is home to several dance companies of international standing, each taking the stage at British Dance Edition, including Sheffield’s Vincent Dance Theatre with *Broken Chords* and Leeds’ own Phoenix Dance Theatre performing *See Blue Through* by Didy Veldman.

Bush Hartshorn, Artistic Director of Yorkshire Dance said “Outside of London, Leeds has more dance activity than any other city in Britain and I am very proud that we have been able to attract such a high profile event. British Dance Edition is a wonderful opportunity to show off both our great city and our finest dance talent to dance professionals who will come from all over the world to check out the latest offerings by British dance artists.”
