News: Award winning Laban

Laban, the London based conservatoire for professional contemporary dance training has won the International Theatre Institute’s Annual Award for Excellence in International Dance.

Receiving the award, Laban Director Anthony Bowne said: “This is a great honour for Laban. We have a strong ambition to remain at the forefront of contemporary dance training and we have graduates working as dance artists, choreographers, teachers and practitioners throughout the world, part of the theatre arts community that the International Theatre Institute represents.”

The award was presented by Neville Shulman CBE, the Director of the International Theatre Institute in the UK at Laban on 30 May.

The ITI is an international non-governmental organization founded in Prague in 1948 by UNESCO and the international theatre community. A worldwide network, it aims “to promote international exchange of knowledge and practice in theatre arts (drama, dance, music theatre) in order to consolidate peace and solidarity between peoples, to deepen mutual understanding and increase creative co-operation between all people in the theatre arts”.
