News: Angelina Ballerina Childrens Award

This year the National Dance Awards and Angelina Ballerina are offering young dancers the chance to audition for the prestigious Angelina Ballerina Children’s Dance Award and win a day with the English National Ballet. Children are invited to enter whether they love ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, or salsa.

HIT Entertainment, producer and rights owner of the children’s character Angelina Ballerina, in partnership with the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards, have announced the launch of this new national dance award for young performers across the UK. Entry to The Angelina Ballerina Children’s Award is now open to young performers up to the age of 9 for the chance to fulfil their dancing dreams.

25 young performers from across the country will be shortlisted and invited to audition live in front of the panel of judges in the studios of English National Ballet on 28 October 2009. The panel of judges include: Angela Rippon, TV presenter and MC for the National Dance Awards, Dirty Dancing star and former Royal Ballet dancer Martin Harvey, English National Ballet choreographer Antony Dowson and Katherine Holabird, the author and creator of Angelina Ballerina.

The inaugural winner of the Angelina Ballerina Children’s Award will be announced at the annual Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House on 21 January 2010. The winner will get the chance to spend a day rehearsing with English National Ballet dancers under the tutelage of choreographer Antony Dowson.
