Henri Oguike Dance Company returns to Southbank Centre to celebrate 10 years of musically-inspired choreography.

Southbank Centre welcomes the return of one of the UK’s most compelling choreographers and his dance company. Renowned for its vigorous, intricate and strong sense of musicality, Henri Oguike Dance Company celebrates 10 years with a retrospective programme of their best works.

Featuring a live performance of Shostakovich’s 9th Quartet by The Pavão Quartet, Oguike’s signature piece, the searing and poignant Front Line (2002) opens the evening. Composer Scarlatti’s bright and rhythmic keyboard pieces follow, performed by harpsichordist Carole Cerasi to accompany the stylish septet White Space (2004). The programme finishes with the joyous full company work Finale (2003), set to the carnival rhythms of René Aubry’s music.

This anniversary triple-bill is enriched by a screening of Falling (2007); a dance-film directed by Dan Farberoff and inspired by NASA astronaut Steve MacLean’s space walk. Falling is a moving and mesmerising duet choreographed by Oguike, featuring an original soundtrack of piano and voice by Errollyn Wallen with narration by Steve MacLean himself
