News: San Francisco Ballet back in London
Artistic director and principal choreographer of the San Francisco Ballet, Helgi Tomasson, talks to Neil Norman about being in charge of the company for 27 years.
“I have always thought of it as a laboratory for dance,” says Tomasson of the company. “People have to be here for a passion. I am looking for quality of movement and the presentation. Maybe I am a dictator in that I like to make every aspect, including lighting and design, the best that it can be. But I am also thinking: ‘What can we do that is new?’”
