This weekend (Fri 4th & Sat 5th September) 125 young dancers will be performing work by a stellar line up of choreographers at Sadler’s Wells. The first Apex Rising festival, hosted by the National Youth Dance Company.

Friday’s programme includes the first three works to be created with the company by Guest Artistic Directors Jasmin Vardimon ( (in between), 2013), Akram Khan ( The Rashomon Effect, with Andrej Petrovi?, 2014) and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (Frame[d], 2015).

On Saturday Groupe Grenade–Josette Baïz from France perform repertoire by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artists Wayne McGregor and Hofesh Shechter; National Youth Dance Company of Scotland presenting work by Anna Kenrick; National Youth Dance Wales perform a newly commissioned piece by Kerry Nicholls – and NYDC presenting a restaged excerpt of Akram Khan’s Vertical Road.

Photographer Ambra Vernuccio dropped in to NYDC’s rehearsals yesterday and found the company working on Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Frame[d]. See her gallery of photos below…
