Feature: London 2012 - summer of dance

There have been many opportunities to dance in London this summer. Thousands of volunteers gave up hours of their time to take part in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies in the Olympic Stadium and in hundreds of Big Dance events – including Wayne McGregor’s dance for Traflagar Square (14 July), which involved 1,000 dancers. There has also been a lot of paid work for professional dancers. Some were recruited to work with Elizabeth Streb’s Extreme Action performing dare devil routines on iconic London landmarks including Millennium Bridge and the London Eye; many were part of the entertainment at Olympic events – like the Gymnastics at the Excel Centre and Beach Volley Ball at Horseguard’s Parade.
