Performer, writer and lecturer Funmi Adewole opened Southbank Centre’s recent Africa Utopia Festival (11 – 14 September) with A Brief Look at Dance in Africa. This whistle stop overview explored dance styles from across the continent using live dance, performance and film. In it Funmi discussed similarities and differences in African dance, the world-wide influence of the African dance aesthetic and how traditional and ceremonial dances evolve.
