    Forsythe Company - N.N.N.N / Study #3 - Sadler's Wells

    Josephine Leask, Thursday 20 June 2013 — Performance: 18 - 20 June 2013

The essence of both 'N.N.N.N' & 'STUDY #3' is that of a workshop: explorative, revealing and informative. Costumes are colourful rehearsal clothes, lighting is bright and sobering.. Continue Reading

    Press Review 3Clement Crisp, Financial Times, Thursday 20 June 2013Performance 18 - 20 June 2013

Study #3 is an extended collation and juxtaposition of attitudes and methods abstracted from three decades of his creations, and is a vexation to the spirit – or at least to my spirit, which has been following Forsythe since Urlicht in 1976 and has been alternately t…

Press Review Neil Norman, The Stage, Wednesday 19 June 2013Performance 17 June 2013

Drawing on the poised, muscle cracking movements of capoeira and tai chi and the fierce, abrupt jabs and gestures of mutated street dance, it is a densely-textured piece that provides an effective physical response to the music. If individual sequences are hard to inte…

  9. Forsythe Company - N.N.N.N / Study #3 - Sadler's Wells

    Press Review 4Sanjoy Roy, Guardian, Wednesday 19 June 2013Performance 18 - 20 June 2013

Study # 3 certainly provokes a typically Forsythean mix of exhilaration and alienation. It sometimes feels more like an extended study than a piece, and you certainly have to work at it; but its strange alchemy also works wonders.

  10. Forsythe Company - N.N.N.N / Study #3 - Sadler's Wells

    Press Review 3Lyndsey Winship, Evening Standard, Wednesday 19 June 2013Performance 18 - 20 June 2013

It can be chin-stroking work, that of William Forsythe, but even when it’s mildly irritating you can see there’s always a brain at work and some awesome bodies too.

Press Review Neil Norman, The Stage, Wednesday 19 June 2013Performance 18 - 20 June 2013

Study #3 is a collation of 30 years of his work with Ballet Frankfurt (1984-2004) and The Forsythe Company (2005 – the present). Cherry-picking from his past, he has somehow managed to distil the essence of his choreographic journey into a work that is less a Bes…

But much more extraordinary on Saturday was the completeness with which she was able to channel the self-absorbed and self-destructive force of Vetsera’s personality. It was a force that vibrated through every second of Benjamin’s performance:

    Press Review Luke Jennings, Observer, Sunday 16 June 2013Performance 12 - 23 June 2013

Tamara Rojo is starry and poignant as Odette, and sumptuously assured as her alter ego Odile. Her Prince is Matthew Golding, a guest artist from Dutch National Ballet. A dancer of crystalline finish, with a soaring jump and turns of impeccable precision,

  15. English National Ballet - Swan Lake -Royal Albert Hall 2013

    Press Review 3Laura Thompson, Telegraph, Saturday 15 June 2013Performance 12 - 23 June 2013

The 60 swans who fill the vast arena are certainly a remarkable sight, almost Hitchcockian in their relentless fluttering and swooping. The happy ending, which sees evil Rothbart spontaneously combust down a hole in the stage, is probably the right one in this context.
